TOP GEAR FESTIVAL ACTIVATION GETS GEARED UP IN KASI STYLE

As the Top Gear Festival (TGF) draws closer and closer, Durban Tourism under the eThekwini Municipality has added some Kasi flavour to it.
One & Only Entertainment Centre situated at KwaMashu “E” Section hosted the first ever Top Gear Festival Soaped Up Car Show & Shine Activation where participants of the TGF brought their cars for the public to judge and vote for their favourite pimped up car.
Alongside Durban Tourism was Gagasi FM which was there to entertain the crowd with DJ Vuma doing what he does best with his mixes. He kept the visitors off their feet to dance along to his music.
Council speaker of eThekwini Municipality, Logie Naidoo was there to witness the extraordinary event that gave people a different mind-set about KwaMashu which is notoriously known for its high rate of crime.
“Well we chose KwaMashu as the venue in order to broaden the field of trust here. As we know there are people throughout eThekwini that would love to be at the launch hosted here at One & Only because this is a spectacular venue. We need to promote this venue as it is part of our township tourism. It’s time we brought our overseas visitors to come see life at the township. It’s a great experience. Like Soweto; people are coming and we need to develop this product and for me, this event today can help a lot with that promotion,” said Naidoo.
Built to impress, this place consists of two floors, VIP sections, Butchery, Bars (upstairs and downstairs) which saves clients from walking up and down to get their choice of beverage and uptight security guards that ensure that no illegal weapons are brought into the premises, is a definite place to visit.
Mfundo Thango, owner of One & Only Entertainment Centre was overwhelmed by hosting the TGF Activation and he said, “This event raised a profile of the township since it is known for crime and violence. Hosting an event of this magnitude, created a platform for local entrepreneurs as food was served by our local caterer to our guests.”
The TGF will commence on the 21st -22nd of June at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. This will be the third instalment in its partnership with the city of Durban and province of KwaZulu-Natal. TGF will once again bring the global television phenomenal to life in a two-day festival extravaganza with the likes of Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson ad The Stig, to mention a few.
