Following the release of the regulations by the government which states that the use of masks is no longer compulsory during vigorous exercise/activity, Virgin Active gave their members the freedom to exercise without a mask on. The gym said that the people still need to maintain a distance of 2 meters from each other in order to prevent infection and that the rule of not wearing a mask only applies to vigorous activity only.
“A mask be worn at all times in the club including on entry and exit. Our teams will still be masked up and we encourage members to use masks responsibly and with consideration for other members,” said the gym management.
Nomfundo Nxumalo, a regular gym-goer said that she is very happy about this new regulation and that is has made her more enthusiastic about attending the gym again.
“I used to exercise at home because gyms were closed, but I missed using gym equipment and seeing other people at the gym,” said Nxumalo.
Nomfundo said that she was afraid that going to the gym would require her to wear a mask during her workouts, and she is so glad that she doesn’t have to.
“When I gym with a mask on I lose breath quickly and I cannot perform well. I start getting lightheaded and dizzy and the whole body feels numb,” she said.
