Zambia crashed South Africa 5-3 out of the Cosafa Cup on penalties after a goalless draw at Mwanawasa Stadium on Wednesday night.
The final will be a repeat of 2009 as the host will play against Zimbabwe who beat Lesotho 2-1 earlier in the day.
Alex Ngonga, Bornwell Mwape, Moses Phiri and Kabaso Chongo and the skipper Bronson Chama netted all the five penalties to make sure that the hosts book its place in the final.
Thulani Hlatshwayo, Lebogang Manyama and Mzikayise Mashaba scored for the visitors and Lerato Chabangu’s effort was saved by the keeper.
There were a lot of expectations for Bafana Bafana as Gordon Igesund’s boys produced an outstanding performance against Namibia in the previous match.
The game didn’t live up to the expectation though both teams created chances but failed to convert them.
In the second half of the regular time, the visitors got two chances but rattled the woodwork. In the extra time, both keepers were like spectators as they were hardly tested.

Bafana Bafana Coach, Gordon Igesund believes that Bafana were a better side on the night and deserved to win. Picture by Safa.
Igesund believes Bafana were a better side and deserved to win. “I thought we were better tonight, I thought we dominated the game especially in the second half, we hit the post twice, but at the end of the day it was a good run out and I saw a lot of good things from my guys,” he was quoted as saying from Soccer Laduma.
“I think we were very unfortunate not to have won the game in regular time.”
Cosafa Cup defending champions, Zimbabwe came from behind to win over Lesotho through Tendai Ndoro’s brace. Notlalepula Mofolo scored for Lesotho.
Bafana Bafana will play against Lesotho for third place on Saturday. Kickoff is at 13:00 and the final is 15:30 on the same day.
