AMAKHOSI THRASH TUKS

By: Siyanda Ndlovu
Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars joined Wits University in the MTN 8 semi-finals when they crushed the University of Pretoria at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Chiefs’ goals from Tefu Mashamaite, Eric Mathoho, and Sphiwe Tshabalala ensured that the Glamour Boys book a spot in the semis.
Chiefs recorded their first ever win over Tuks as they showed more determination and hunger for success from the beginning of the match. It was not a long hunt for that goal as Mashamaite got it in the early minutes of the first half from a corner kick which Tuks defence failed to clear.
Another corner kick which Tuks failed to clear in the 64th minutes found well positioned Mathoho and rewarded Chiefs their second goal. Chiefs continued with their domination but Tuks were nevertheless down when they almost rewarded a goal when Mpho Moruping’s header went just wide.
On the final third of the game Chiefs duo Tshabalala and Parker combined well and Shabba slotted home the final touch in the back of the net to seal the deal for Chiefs, final score 3-0.
At the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Benson Mhlongo, Sphelele Mthembu and Mogakolodi Ngele scored Platnum Stars goals as they thrashed Free State Stars out of the competition.
Free State Stairs’ domination of the game meant nothing as it took them a whole 45 minutes to fire a first short on target. Dikwena found a goal on the 26th minute through Mhlongo. The game continued with both teams playing fairly balanced football until the 74th minutes when Mthembu headed for the home side a goal which gave them a lead.
Ngele sealed the show through a beautifully curled free kick in the 80th minute to fly Dikwena straight to the semi-finals.
