Arsenal thrashed Fenerbahce 5-0 in the second leg of the Uefa Champions League clash at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
Arsene Wenger’s side came into the game with a 3-0 advantage on aggregate.
The game began with Fenerbahce proving to overpower the home side but failed to complete their attacks. Earlier in the first half, Arsenal had an opportunity to open the scoring sheet, but Olivier Giroud failed to put the ball at the back of the next.
Both sides showed determination and composure but did not create enough scoring chances.
Lucas Podolski connected with Theo Walcott on the 25th minute and set up a great scoring opportunity. Fenerbahce defender slipped the ball through and Aaron Ramsey capitalized on that incident, putting the home side on a 1-0 lead.
Fenerbahce got a free kick but Moussa Sow did not use the opportunity efficiently.
Their performance got even weaker when Sow was substituted after several unsuccessful shorts at goal. Arsenal grew to improve their attacking strategies and stabilized their ball possession into the second quarter. Although they had been dominating, Aaron Giroud kept on wasting good opportunities until the last minute of the first half.
The visitors almost caught Arsenal out when Emmanuel Emenike broke free on the left and unleashed a fierce drive that Wojciech Szczesny pushed against the post before Giroud found himself in space, only to fire over from six yards after an excellent low cross from Cazorla.
Podolski was substituted due to hamstring injury which will keep him out of action for three weeks. He was replaced by Kieran Gibbs.
On the 69th minute, Ramsey found a scoring opportunity and put the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
