A goal in each half sealed a victory for Bafana Bafana in their penultimate qualification match of the African Cup of Nations against Sudan, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Thulani Serero had the first strike in the first half and Tokelo Rantie increased the score in the second. Ibrahim Salah managed to score one for the visitors to make the score 2 – 1 after 90 minutes.
After winning the clash, Bafana booked a spot in the 2015 AFCON tournament to be played in Equatorial Guinea.
Shakes Mashaba’s men dominated throughout the game. The combination of Serero, Andile Jali, Oupa Manyisa and Dean Furman made things easier for the home side.
“When we prepare for these kind of matches, we prepare based on the players we are having and there will be expects telling you that your tactical work is not right. What matters is the goals, no matter how you work on tactical things and style,” said Mashaba.
“After a long time, it was good to see our boys play this kind of football. There was everything that you would have asked for as a coach including the goals,” he elaborated. “We wanted to go out there and qualify to change our image.”
Furman was impressed with the outstanding performance which helped them to claim a spot in the AFCON finals.
“We are delighted for the victory; we knew what we had to do today. We know that in the past we haven’t quite got there because there have been issues so today we are delighted to get the three points. The football we gave today was excellent,” he said.
