South Africa A team coach Vincent Barnes, believes his team has got what it takes to restore the nation’s pride ahead of the unofficial four-day test starting on 7 August.
The team is in Australia taking part in a four-day test that will be played in Townsville Stadium.
Only four players were changed to accommodate test specialists players in the team that took part in the Quadrangular series.
The likes of Cody Chetty, Mthokozisi Shezi, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Aaron Phangiso and Farhaan Behardien were sacrificed.
Players like Themba Bavuma, Rory Kleinveldt, Eddie Leie, Khaya Zondo David White and Hardus Viljoen were called upon to replace them respectively.
Vincent Barnes admits that his players are not experienced but believes they can do well.
Barnes told Journalismiziko that these five players come in with a lot of courage and hunger.
“Nothing much will change. There will be some fresh faces coming into the 4 day squad but the work ethic and team environment will stay the same,” said Barnes.
The 54-year-old revealed that despite his telling display, Mthokozisi Shezi was not going to be part of the team.
“Mthokozisi Shezi has been working hard at his game especially in nets and it came as no surprise that he has performed so well but we had to consider that the squad was already called for the four day test,” said the former assistant coach of Proteas bowlers.
The SA A team ended their Quadrangular series on a high when they got the better of the National Performance squad. The coach believes this will serve as an inspiration come their test series.
“The victory boosted our confidence and we will be taking this to our upcoming series against our opponents,” said Barnes.
There are some young players who are groomed for the Proteas and the Capetonian believes that one or two players are ready to take on the centre stage by donning the famous Proteas jersey.
