Brazilians normalise promotion of youngsters
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said he will allow one of the club’s recent promoted youngster as he adjusts to the first team.
Promise Mkhuma was promoted to the senior team in January. Mkhuma has been handed a five-year contract at Sundowns and hailed a bright prospect with similar qualities to Percy Tau. He is yet to make his official debut.
“Mkhuma follows in the footsteps of youngsters that have come from the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC), where he was the top goal scorer,” Mosimane said.
“He has a special left foot and is a specialist with free kicks, but also very quick on the field. He reminds me of Percy Tau, but I don’t want to use that name a lot to put unnecessary pressure towards him,” said Mosimane.
He also explained Tau’s super-performance as a good example of giving youngsters an opportunity on the first team. Tau achieved a big move to English Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion, which loaned him out to Belgium for two seasons.
Mosimane promised to be patient with Mkhuma.
“He has more to learn and work on. He is training very well, but he has had difficulties towards adapting in terms of the intensity and style of play here. Sometimes he wants to sit on the ball and they press him and take the ball. He is learning and we have time for him because he is a young player,” Coach explained.
