CHIEFS CEMENT TOP SPOT – PSL ROUND-UP

By: Nhlanhla Ndlovu
Kaizer Chiefs remained six points clear at the top of the Absa Premier Soccer League table after bagging maximum points against Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday night.
Two goals in the last five minutes of the game from Knowledge Musona at the Peter Mokaba Stadium ensured that Amakhosi maintained its grasp on the top spot.
The brace increased Musona’s goal tally to eight for the season, making him the club’s second top scorer behind Bernard Parker. Parker, who has 10 goals this season, was rested for Wednesday’s match.
Chiefs went into the clash under pressure following Mamelodi Sundowns’ win on Tuesday. Anthony Laffor and Dave Wome sealed a win for the Brazilians against Free State Stars at Charles Mopeli Stadium. Moeketsi Sekola managed to pull one back to make the score 2-1.
With just eight games left for the season, it’s looking likely that the two Gauteng sides will go head-to-head for the trophy.
But they are being strongly chased by two other Gauteng sides – Bidwest Wits and Orlando Pirates – who are sitting in third and fourth on the log respectively.
Wits played to a 0-0 draw against Pretoria University in midweek, while Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw at the Mbombela Stadium by Mpumalanga Black Aces. Sfiso Myeni put Bucs on the lead, before Eddie Ngalo leveled before halftime.

Golden Arrows allowed former Santos man Vuyisile Wana to score a give Moroka Swallows its first win of the year.
Arrows’ ship seemed sinking, as they still have garnered mere 13 points in 21 games this season. It would require something special from the Durban side to avoid relegation.
In other clashes, Maritzburg United played a 1-1 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic while AmaZulu narrowly beat Polokwane City by 1-0. SuperSport United failed to emerge victorious at home against Platinum Stars as they shared points following a 1-1 draw.
