Ajax Cape Town players welcomed their new coach with a victorywhen they got maximum points from Polokwane City on Friday.
Roger De Sa was a happy man after his team, made mostly of young players, showed good character as they beat the Polokwane side by 2-0 at Athlone Stadium.
The first goal came inthe 6th minute after Keegan Dolly slotted one home after a good combination with Nathan Paulse.
City had a chance to level the score in the 30th minute when Galabgwe Monyala tested the goalkeeper, Anssi Jaakola who palmed the ball. Jaakola produced good saves on the first half. In the second half the Urban Warriors continued to show depth as they had the support of their home crowd, which led Paulse scoring the second goal in the 55th minute.
Neither of the two sides fully dominated the match as both teams got equal chances on the second half but what made the difference is how each team used those chances they got.
After the match, De Sa praised his boys for putting on a good performance. ‘‘This was a good start for me as the coach and it was nice to see the young players combining good with Paulse at the front,’’said De Sa.
De Sa went on to praise the 17-year-old Rivaldo Coetzee, saying the youngster had a good debut match.
City coach Bobby Solomons praised his team regardless of the results of the day and he touched on the team’s bad away record. Polokwane City has only collected one point in their last nine games.
“Today we had a good game, it is just the results that did not go our way and weather in Cape Town has a negative impact on us,” said Solomons.
Coetzee thanked the coach for giving him a chance, and his teammates for giving him support, while Nathan Paulse also thanked the supporters and coach for believing in him.
The Ajax are now occupying the 8th spot on the log whilst City is on the third from last.
In the other match Maritzburg United beat Moroka Swallows 1-0 courtesy of Thokozane Sikotlong.
