DOLPHINS’ QUEST FOR ANOTHER TROPHY

After an outstanding competitive spirit throughout the RAM Slam T20 tournament, the Sunfoil Dolphins are in quest for yet another silver ware.
The Durban franchise battle with Unlimited Titans in their Sunfoil Series 4-day match from Thursday until Sunday at Sahara Willowmoore Park.
Despite Cape Cobras leading the Dolphins with 27 points, skipper Morne van Wyk believes that the remaining three games are an opportunity for his side to make further progress.
“I guess with the Cobras winning again you sort of have to think that it’s going their way again, but we’ll have to try and win the next three and then see where we are in the first week of April,” said Van Wyk.
“We’re just looking for our guys to keep on maturing and keep getting better and better with an eye on seasons to come. We could be even closer come this time next season.”
The campaign has seen several new players acquit themselves extremely well in four-day cricket. Fast bowler Daryn Dupavillon produced a sterling performance on his debut, claiming a five-wicket haul, while left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi displayed a superlative showing last weekend against Chevrolet Warriors.
There are no changes that the Dolphins made to last week’s encounter, having been denied a crack at a result by the weather in East London.
Titans, who are on the basement of the table, have won just one game all season, and captain Henry Davids confirmed there are likely to be some new faces coming in as they give youth a chance but did not was unwilling to provide names.
The hosts will be hoping that a couple of older faces manage to prove their fitness – and that the weather changes after 10 days of heavy rain.
“Ethy Mbhalati is back in training but we’re not sure if he’ll be ready,” said Davids. “Marchant de Lange is bowling well and is fit and strong, so there’s a good chance.”
The history narrowly favours Dolphins as they have won five out of 19 matches, while the host won four and drew 10 times against each other.
In other Sunfoil Series fixtures, Warriors battle with Highveld Lions in Port Elizabeth while log leaders, Cape Cobras, visit Chevrolet Knights in Kimberly.
