DOWNS TOPPLES CHIEFS AT THE TOP – PSL WRAP

Mamelodi Sundowns gobbled three points against Bloemfontein Celtic and climbed into the top of the Absa Premiership standings at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday.
Surprise Moriri’s header from a well-taken free kick by Teko Modise in the 23th minute, gave Sundowns a ticket to the top of the table – three points clear ahead of Kaizer Chiefs who suffered their second defeat in a row against Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Miguel Timm silenced the home crowd at FNB Stadium when he scored the only goal of the match in the stoppage time. The goal came after a good play from former Chiefs player Abia Nale. With only five games remaining,there is a tingling uncertainty surrounding Amakhosi, though they have a game in hand.
SuperSport United smashed down Free State Stars with a 2-1 victory at Charles Mopedi Stadium. Their winning goals from Innocent Mkhabela and Bokang Thlone’s own goal secured them a fourth place on the log table. Camaldine Abraw scored a mere consolation goal for Stars.
Maritzburg United and Polokwane City shared spoils at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Maritzburg’s goal scored by Heinrich Isaacks from penalty after Vusi Mthimkhulu was judged for a handball in 18 area box. The hosts got their goal from Sipho Jembula after combining well with Galabgwe Moyana.
Bidvest Wits kept with their winning consistency after smashing down Platinum Stars at Bidvest Stadium with a late strike by Asive Langwe. The game made no difference from both teams on their log standings, as the Clever Boys remained on the 3rd and Dikwena on the 9th position respectively.
Relegation-threatened Golden Arrows drew 2-2 with Ajax Cape Town. Arrows led on through Thanduyise Khubone and Fetus Mbewe but Eleazer Rodgers’s brace gained a point for the Urban Warriors.
On Tuesday, University of Pretoria beat Moroka Swallows 2-1.
