DURBAN FIVE-SIDE TEAM SHINE

Durban’s amateur side, KZN Connected has won a chance to represent South Africa in France after winning the KIA Five-a-side Soccer Tournament on Sunday.
The KIA Motors South Africa tournaments was hosted in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, with the top two teams from each region making it through to the finals that were on 28 May 2016 at Discovery Soccer Park, in Durban.
KZN Connected beat Astro FC 5-4 to secure their ticket to represent South Africa at the Arena World Finals which will be held in Bordeaux, France, in the first week of July 2016.
The KZN Connected skipper Donavan Gordon thanked KIA Motors South Africa for a highly successful tournament.
“My team played with pure hearts and the right attitude, and if there’s one word I would use to describe our performances throughout the tournament, it would be ‘character’,” said Gordon.
“We really looking forward to representing South Africa with pride in France and do so under the guidance of Gavin Hunt, whom I feel will play a big role in improving our play and making us a much better team – and certainly one that can compete,” added Gordon.
KZN Connected they will now receive a one-on-one coaching session from three-time PSL winning coach, Gavin Hunt, before they travel to France at the end of June for the KIA Champ into the Arena World Finals.
In conjunction with its global partnership to FIFA, and as one of the main sponsors of the 2016 UEFA EURO 2016 in France, KIA Motors saw the need to uplift and expose the youth talent to international level.
The KZN Connection will be competing against 32 other teams from across the globe, experiencing the French culture as well as attending one of the quarter-final matches at UEFA-EURO 2016 which will be held in France.
