Seaboard 1 Residence moved a step closer to the final of the Residence League as they thumbed Trio House 3-2 at Fred Crooks Sport Centre on Saturday.
This first leg of the quarter finals started on a high note as the South Beach based-outfit wasted no time and scored the opening goal of the game in the first two minutes.
After a good team play, Ayanda Sosibo tapped in into an open net to make it 1-0 to Seaboard.
It seemed as if the match was going to be a walk in the park for Seaboard 1 as they dominated the game and looked very dangerous.
Trio House were chasing shadows, however, managed to pull a rather shocking comeback five minutes to halftime with captain Sphephelo
Mkhwanazi slotting home from a tight angle to level matters.
Trio House’s celebrations were short-lived as Seaboard 1 scored the second goal four minutes to halftime, Andile Dlalisa beat the goalkeeper with a sluggish shot from outside the box to
the bottom corner and went to halftime 2-1. The second half started good for Seaboard 1 as they created a lot of chances but failed to convert.
Seaboard 1 finally got that goal to seal their victory as Sosibo headed home from a corner to finish his brace and put his team another step closer to the final. It was not over as Trio pulled
one back this time from the penalty spot when Seaboard defender handled the ball in the box and Mthobisi Zwane made no mistake and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
The match ended 3-2 and man of the match Ayanda Sosibo said the team motivated his efforts and has been working hard at training.
“The team and the coach did a tremendous job, and my goals today were scored from teamwork.
We must focus on the second leg so we can get to the finals,” said Sosibo.
On the other quarter final match, Berea Residence and Mayville Residence were held to a stale mate. The second leg of the quarter finals will be played on 2nd September.
