DUT SMASH HOWARD COLLEGE

A spirited Durban University of Technology football team collected maximum points against Howard College in league game at UKZN Howard College ground on Saturday evening.
DUT showed their intentions early in the game. It didn’t take long for winger Hlakanipho “Litho” Myeni to find the back of the net as he fired in a long range shot, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
While the home team’s fans held their breath whenever the threatening DUT side attacked, it was Howard College who would get the game’s second goal. Striker Ayanda Zulu leveled matters after some sloppy DUT defending just before half time.
In the second half however, the visitors showed their pedigree, making dangerous moves with the ball. Sandile “Msenti” Sithole silenced the home crowd as he put DUT in the lead.
Fanele Sithole buried a cross from the right to give DUT a commanding lead, before doubling his tally through a penalty.
Although Howard College were next to find the back of the net, it was scant consolation, with DUT cruising into a 4-2 victory.
DUT – who drew goalless with University of Zululand last week – is now on four points after two games.
DUT coach Nhlanhla Mshibe expressed his delight after a sterling performance from his boys.
“Yes it was a tough game indeed. I am happy with my team’s performance. They played very well and I enjoyed the collaboration which was showed by my team,” said Mshibe.
DUT will look to maintain their momentum on Saturday when they clash with UKZN’s Edgewood campus at Alphine Sports Ground.
