EX CHIEFS COACH TAKES THE REIGNS AT PIRATES

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic has been appointed as the new Orlando Pirates coach, the club confirmed on Friday.
Vermezovic signed a three-year deal with Soweto giants, replacing Rodger De Sa who resigned last month.
In a statement released by the club, the Serbian said he has unfinished business in South Africa and is grateful for the opportunity.
“Orlando Pirates is offering me an opportunity to fulfil a dream of a lifetime. I am therefore not coming into an unknown environment. It should help because I know the supporters expect me to hit the deck running,” said Vermezovic.
The club Chairman Irvin Khoza is confident that the Serbian will strengthen stability and consistency in the club.
“VV is not new to the South African condition. His hunger and discipline is impressive,” said Khoza.
“We are in the business of creating memories, history and leaving behind legacies that inspire generations to come. Coaches have become as much a part of this phenomenon as players. I wish VV a memorable and noteworthy career at Orlando Pirates,” added Khoza.
In his three-season tenure at Chiefs, Vermezovic scooped two Telkom Knockout honours and reached MTN8 final in 2011. The Serbian was then sacked after a string of abysmal results.
Khoza heaped praise and gratitude to the club’s assistant coach Eric Tinkler, who stepped in as caretaker after De Sa’s unexpected departure.
“Eric is a ‘can do’ man that would rather fail doing rather than provide excuses. His work ethic is commendable. His commitment and hard work is not going unnoticed. I am confirming that Eric will continue in his role as assistant coach of Orlando Pirates,” concluded Khoza.
The 50-year-old is expected to start as soon as he gets his work permit.
Following VV’s appointment, Bucs’ supporters took to social networks to express their sentiments.
On Twitter, Rich HomiE Sipho @Cyhisipho said: “Hai Vermezovic!! Pirates losing the plot now.”
Clyde Tlou @clydegoal tweeted, “Vladimir Vermezovic is a very good coach, #OrlandoPirates will will a treble with him next season!”
