FIFA has announced the nominees for the 2020 edition of Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony, and kekana’s goal against Cape Town City on 29 August is amongst the candidates for Puskas Award 2020.
Kekana is nominated alongside 10 other players for this prize including former Barcelona man Luis Saurez, ex France international Andre-Pierre Gignac and Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-min Son
This his second nomination for him as he was previously shortlisted for a wonder strike from within his half during a match between Bafana Bafana and Cameroon in 2016.
The 35-year old took to Twitter to celebrate and dedicate the nomination to his former teammate Anele Ngcongca, who passed Monday morning.
“As a club, we are still mourning the loss of our brothers. In training we feel it, amidst the sadness, it is difficult to process this and I have to dedicate this nomination to my brother Anele Ngcongca”, kekana said on Twitter.
Kekana will be hoping to be a step further this time and be in the final three.
FIFA explained the terms and condition of the award and details about voting on their website.
“The winner of the FIFA Puskas Award will be selected by an international jury compromising a panel of Fifa legends and by fans from all over the world registered on www.fifa.com. Each of the two groups voters within the jury has the same electoral weight,” said Fifa in a statement.
Voting is already open and will close on December 9 before three finalists are announced two days later and a winner will be crowned The Best Fifa Football Awards on December 17.
