Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana striker, Katlego “Killer” Mphela was involved in a car accident on Tuesday afternoon, which he was lucky enough to survive with minor injuries.
According to Soccer Laduma’s website, it reported that the accident took place just outside Marabastad.
Mphela was driving his Mercedez Benz C63 when he colided with a delivery truck at around 15:30 and his sports car has been declared beyond repairs. Exact details of the incident are yet to be known.
Killer was taken to hospital, but sustained no major injuries.
“He didnt look shocked at all when hecame out of his Mercedez Benz,” a Soccer Laduma source revealed.
“Yes , I was involved in a car accident but I’m alright. I can’t talk much now,” said Mphela in an interview with Soccer Laduma.
Mamelodi Sundowns hopes that he’ll recover in time ahead of their opener away to Bloemfontein Celtic this coming Sunday.
There were reports that Mphela might move to another club over the past year, but his representative, Glyn Binkin has confirmed that they had always expected the 28-year-old to stay on another year.
He told Soccer Laduma that, “They’ve exercised his option, they told me. He signed a two-year deal in 2010 that ha d options on.” The option that Sundowns has taken on forward is now their last, meaning that some time before June next year, the player either signs a new deal with the club or takes the next step in his career.
Meanwhile, there have been further reports that he might be moving abroad. According to thesun.co.uk website, Mphela has reportedly caught the eye of Hull City manager, Steve Bruce, who is alleged to be seriously looking to offer the Brits-born forward a permanent deal.
He has scored 46 goals in 110 appearances since joining the multi-billion rand club from Supersport United and he is 9 goals away from becoming Bafan’s all-time goalscorer.
