MAN CITY CLINCHES CAPITAL ONE CUP

Goals from Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas sealed the Capital One Cup for Manchester City against Sunderland at the Wembley Stadium in London.
Sunderland scored first through Fabio Borini, who stood firm in a one on one situation against City skipper, Vincent Kompany. The on-loan Liverpool striker showed class by scoring with the outside of his boot.
The Black Cats continued to press for extending the lead as Wes Brown saw his effort going wide.
Ultimately, the Sky Blues lived up to the favourite tag as Pablo Zabaleta played the square ball to Toure, and the African football of the year planted his long range effort to the top corner to level the score line from 30 yards.
City looked more hunger for a leading goal as they controlled the game after Toure’s goal. Eventually Manuel Pellegrini’s men doubled the advantage through Nasri in the 57th minute, the French international capitalised from Alexandra Kolorov’s cross.
Sunderland continued to fight but City looked more capable to score again, with Kompany’s near post volley flashing just wide. Navas came from the bench to seal a famous 3-0 victory for the Sky Blues.
City boss Pellegrini said he was thrilled with his boys’ performance.
“I’m very happy. I think the team deserve this cup because we played well during the whole cup and we scored a lot of goals and conceded just two goals in the whole cup.” Pellegrini told Sky Sports.
Nasri said that he is very happy to win the cup and he has much pride after scoring because it was very important for them to win.
“We want to win everything. We are going to compete for the league, the FA Cup and we are going to try to make something in the Champions League. I hope this is going to bring confidence and we will fight until the end,” Nasri told Sky Sports.
Sunderland will now look to shift the focus to the Premier League as there are facing an axe. They are currently occupying the 18th spot in a 20 team’s league. Meanwhile City will hope to overcome a 2 goal deficit at the expense of Barcelona in the Uefa Champions League on the 12th of March.
