Momentum has announced that they will not be renewing their sponsorship with Cricket South Africa (CSA) once it expires next year in April.
In a statement on Tuesday, Carel Bosman who is the head of sponsorship at Momentum stated that they were not pleased with the way the organization was dealing with issues regarding governance and reputational issues.
“We will continue our dialogue with CSA to keep them accountable to do the right thing. We all want to see a governing body that is run professionally and ethically, and one that considers all stakeholders to the game. We wish CSA well as they move forward,” said in the statement.
Since the suspension of then CEO Thabang, Monroe the CSA has been facing a lot of issues, failing to restore its public trust and recently Standard Bank decided to terminate their contract this year.
Momentum mentioned how working with CSA has benefited their brand.
“Our eight-year partnership as a sponsor of cricket in South Africa has been hugely rewarding for our brand. We have had some really great innings, considering that we were involved in several platforms such as development cricket, schools cricket, club cricket, domestic and international cricket. Our support of and contribution to cricket is a positive story that we are proud of.” the statement read.
The company confirmed that it will continue sponsoring the women’s team with a contract running until April 2023. Previously the women’s team were not awarded full contracts but this year Momentum awarded 14 players with full complement contract that offers full-time coaching, support and management team.
“We have been extraordinarily proud of our role in supporting the advancement of the women’s team and remain committed to that sponsorship agreement,” Bosman said.
Bosman said that as a brand they will continue showing support to the Momentum Proteas by showing their talent, building their commercial value and enabling them on their journey to success.
