Kaizer Chiefs target man Bernard Parker scooped both Q1 and Q2 Absa Premiership player of the quarter awards, the Premier Soccer League announced on Monday.
Parker has performed consistently throughout this season with 10 goals under his name so far and he is the current leading goal scorer. Convener of judges Farouk Khan commended the winners and showed appreciation to Parker’s effort thus far this season.
“Parker has proven that he is no flash to the pan by showing the goal-scoring consistency that is required from a top striker and is fully deserves to win the prizes from Absa for the first two quarters of the season,” said Khan in the statement realized by PSL.
The 27-year-old struggled for game-time in the Holland side FC Twente, encouraging him to sign with Kaizer Chiefs in 2011.
Although he failed to make impact in his debut season in the PSL but he came back on a high in the 2012/13 season scoring 12 goals helping his club to claim the ABSA Premiership title.
Amakhosi mentor Stuart Baxter also showed the good performance of the club by walking away with the Absa Premiership coach of the quarter award after leading the club to six wins out of seven matches. Although Chiefs dominated in the awards ceremony Khan believes that the title race is still on.

“It is fitting that Kaizer Chiefs, who have been in such fine form over the past few months, have their coach and striker among the honours but knowing South African football, I am sure that the race for the coveted 2013/14 season Absa Premiership title is gathering momentum,” added Khan.
The Glamour Boys have won 13, drawn four and lost only two matches out of 19 they have played this season as they are still leading the log table.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns excellent start of the season allowed their coach Pitso Mosimane to collect the Absa Premiership coach of the first quarter.
Each award was accompanied by R15 000.
