Pelembe stuck in the native country
Elias Pelembe of Bidvest Wits has been left wanting in his country, Mozambique.
The mercurial winger is struggling to manoeuvre a way to get across the border and join up with his teammates.
Wits CEO, Jonathan Schloss, has lamented the impact the lockdown regulations have hampered Domingues’ return to South African shores.
“Can you ask the government when they are going to open their borders? And when you get the answer tell me what the answer is please.”
He further revealed the club’s concern about the player’s return.
“Imagine if he comes and infects people, then they are going to say ‘what did I do’. So I mean we have no say over that, it’s a government issue and they won’t bend the rules for a footballer who has gone home.”
Pelembe, a three-time Premier Soccer League winner with SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Bidvest Wits has proven himself to be a pivotal element in the Wits setup thus the club’s decision to renew his contract until the end of the season.
“Yes, that is now our purpose but it depends when he comes back. If he comes back and we are already two games left, then no. But if he comes back before we go to the bubble and he’s fit, it’s a different story,” Schloss revealed to Kick.com.
“He will come back when he comes back and we’ll always be open for it. Pelembe’s been with us for years.”
