Pitso Mosimane leaves Mamelodi Sundowns to join Al Ahly
Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane has handed over his resignation letter and is said to join an Egyptian team Al Ahly.
Mosimane leaves the soccer team after being with them for years and just after a month of winning the team’s 10th Premiership title.
Mamelodi Sundowns President, Patrice Motsepe issued a statement confirming Mosimane’s departure from the team and also wished him well for moving on to greener pastures.
“Pitso Mosimane and his agent Moira Tlhagale, who is also his wife, came to brief me on the discussions between Pitso Mosimane and a top Egyptian club. Sundowns has been aware of the ongoing discussions between Pitso Mosimane and the Egyptian club and with other North African clubs.
“I have on several occasions over the past few years expressed my support for Pitso Mosimane leaving Sundowns to coach in North Africa, Europe or Bafana Bafana. Football players and coaches have at times an uncertain and inconsistent future and must pursue new opportunities where they may grow and receive greater remuneration”
“I have received a warm and emotional note from Pitso and am very proud of his achievements at Sundowns. Pitso has been the most successful coach in the history of Sundowns and will always be a member of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family. I wish him, Moira and his family everything of the very best and I hope to see him coaching in Europe,” read the statement.
Mamelodi Sundowns is yet to look for another head coach that will fill Mosimane’s shoes. “ Look am happy for Pitso he has won everything there is to win in South Africa he had nothing else to achieve here so it’s great to see him accept a new challenge it show he is a progressive person,” said a happy fan Linda Mhlongo.
Another fan of Mosimane, Xolani Bopane said “See I’ve grown to like him for what he’s achieved so far as a black man right so I feel as though in an unforgiving football country like Egypt he might not crack it. So you know I just hope it turns out good for the man.”
