Proteas secure semi-final spot at Netball World Cup
The Proteas progressed to the semi-finals of the Netball World Cup after a historic win over Uganda at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Wednesday.
South Africa won the game 67-40 and secured a place in the semi- finals joining England, Australia and New Zealand.
The Proteas started their game very well and managed to net 19- 10 points in the first quarter with Lenize Potgieter and Maryka Holtzhausen converting all their attempts.
Uganda applied pressure and had a strong second quarter winning it 13-12. The Proteas led 31-23 at half time.
South Africa dominated Uganda in the third and the last quarter as Lenize Potgieter managed a 94% shooting record on the night, converting all 46 of her 49 attempts while Maryka Holtzhausen managed to slot 21 of her 23 attempts.
Proteas captain, Bongi Msomi said, “It’s really an amazing feeling now to know that we are in the semi-finals, it’s an exciting achievement again credit to Norma and the team, this one is in the bag and we still have to focus because the world cup is not done yet,” she said.
The Proteas continue with an unbeaten run. South Africa will take on England in the deciding game of the group stages on Thursday.
