A solitary goal courtesy of Elias Pelembe kept Sundowns on top of the log with a win over Mpumalanga Black Aces at Loftus stadium in Pretoria Wednesday evening.
The chloorkop-based side dominated the game but could only manage a slender win and got their eight successive win. The clause in these sides loan agreement that disallows them to face their parent club kept three key players out for Aces.
Pelembe made a quick run heading a cross from Tebogo Langerman past Jackson Mabogkwane. Kennedy Mweene had to pull a few save to keep his side on top of the log.
Kaizer Chiefs defeated the relegation-threatened side Polokwane City 2-0 at Peter Mokaba stadium Wednesday night.
Chiefs came into this game having lost two of the last matches to lose the number one spot to Sundowns. In-form George Lebese tapped home a Kingston Nkhatha cross in the 8th minute. Polokwane also had a few chances but they just could not get it to the back of the net with Itumeleng Khune keeping them at bay.
A deflected shot from George Maluleka was enough to seal the three points for Amakhosi.
A late goal from Bidvest Wits captain Sibusiso Vilakazi sealed victory for the students who were facing struggling Moroka Swallows at the Bidvest stadium.
The Birds had only won one of their last five matches playing against a side that was on a six game winning streak. The Clever Boys were dominating the game with many missed opportunities. Vilakazi’s cross found Getaneh
Kadebe who put it in the back of an empty net. Kadebe also had one goal ruled out to be offside.
Lefa Tsutsulupa equalised for the visitors in the injury time with a half, but Vilakazi snatched the crucial three points with a low shot in the back of the net.
Platinum Stars beats AmaZulu with a slender win at the rainy Royal Bafokeng stadium.
The match was stopped at half time for about an hour as torrents of rain made it impossible to continue. After the break Vuyo Mere scored a penalty to give Dikwena a crucial win after Carlington Nyadombo handled the ball in his own box.
The struggling side Golden Arrows had to settle for at least one point as they drew 1-1 with Bloemfontein Celtic at the King Zwelithini stadium.
Frank Mhango scored for the visiting side in the early stages of the second half but the on-loan midfielder from Orlando Pirates Manti Moholo pulled one back for the home side a few minutes later to share spoils.
Pirates return to the fourth place on the Absa Premiership table after they defeated Maritzburg United 1-0 at the Orlando stadium Tuesday.
Helder Pelembe scored the only goal of the match after Thamsanqa Gabuza held defenders then crossed the ball to the Mozambican who scored with a great sliding finish.
