Lorch walks out on R2,000 bail
Orlando Pirates forward, Thembinkosi Lorch has been unconfined on R2 000 bail following his arrest in Midrand on Monday morning.
KickOff.com broke the news in the early hours of Monday that Lorch has been arrested for alleged assault on his girlfriend Nokuphiwa Mathithibala.
According to Sunday World, Lorch became hostile when his girlfriend asked about his whereabouts. The 27-year-old allegedly slapped Mathithibala and strangled her before driving off with his friend, leaving Mathithibala in his Midrand complex.
The midfielder appeared in court Monday, the same day of the arrest. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, confirmed to KickOff.com that the footballer will appear in court again next month after he was freed on bail on Monday afternoon.
“He has been released on bail. He will appear in court again on the 8th of October,” Said Mjonondwane.
Pirates recently suspended Lorch for breaching bio-bubble protocol but he came back to the team before the end of the season.
In a statement released by Pirates on their website, the club apologized for Lorch’s actions and highlighted that they are condemning all forms of violence especially against women and children.
However, it is still unknown what the club is going to do with the player after he is done with the law enforcement and the allegations he is faced with.
Quoted from the official statement released by Orlando Pirates:
“This country has witnessed some of the most appalling cases of GBV and we do not take this matter lightly, however, we need to respect the process undertaken by the authorities and allow the law to take its course.”
