Manchester United convincingly defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the Barclays Premier League encounter at the Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Goals from the Dutch striker Robin Van Persie, and Wayne Rooney ensured that the Red Revils collect maximum points. The visitors looked focussed in the early stages of the game and they created chances, but couldn’t bury them.
United almost took a lead in the 17th minute when winger Adnan Januzaj goal was disallowed as he was judged for handball before he took the shot. David Moyes’ boys continued to put pressure on the home side, Rooney come close to grabbing the lead when he got a cross but a well-alert Palace defence cleared it off.
With both sides attacking on each other’s territory, Chris Smalling’s deflection almost creped the bottom corner but the ever ready United goal stopper, David De Gea, made sure to keep the ball away.
Match went to half time with no goals. Palace then had a chance to lead in the second half when Puncheon hit from long range, but De Gea punched the ball out.
Adrenalin rushed when Patrice Evra was brought down in the box by the defender, Marouane Chamakh, and penalty was given.
With so much confidence and expectations, Van Persie, took the penalty and brilliantly smashed it in the top right corner.
As the home side was trying to compose themselves after a penalty, 8 minutes later a second goal came in. A high cross from the fullback Evra went through to Rooney, without holding the ball he smashed a staggering goal.
Both teams made changes in hope that fresh feet will give them what they need, especial the home side but the game was intense. After so much effort for Palace the game ended without managing to find consolation goal, giving United a win and putting themselves in an embarrassing defeat of three games in a raw.
United Manager, David Moyes, said that he’s very happy that Rooney extended his contract with the team.
“Rooney is a quality player and when combined with Van Persie they are terrific, so we really played well today and we hope to move up to the log though it tough but we will,” Moyes said.
United are now 6th on the log while Palace is on the 15th spot.
