SPIRITED DUT EDGE MUT

The Durban University of Technology’s footbal team collected maximum points in the toughest encounter against Mangosuthu University of Technology at the Mangosuthu Sport Ground on Wednesday.
Nhlakanipho Myeni’s brace ensured that DUT remain unbeaten and climb to the top of the league table – with seven points after three matches.
MUT were the first to lay an attack as they were fired a shot but it went over the bar. The mistake by DUT at the back saw them giving away a cheap goal as the goalkeeper failed to clear a ball and the MUT were on the lead inside 20 minutes.
Myeni got a great cross from Fanele Sithole in the 27th minute but instead of passing to his free teammate, he chose to fire the ball over the bar.
In the second half, the visitors regrouped themselves as they were playing good attacking football and that came as the reward to them when Myeni buried a pass from Lindo Hadebe to equalise.
DUT striker Sandile Sithole’s second bookable offence saw him get an early shower as he was red carded.
Myeni completed hid brace as he netted a cross from the left to put DUT on the lead. MUT striker got a clear chance in the dying minutes of the game but failed to score and putted the ball over the post.
As the MUT continued to miss scoring chances, this saw their aggressive fans leave the stands before the game end.
It was celebration all over the pitch for DUT after the referee blew the final whistle.
The excited DUT coach, Nhlanhla Mshibe, was not happy with how they conceded the goal but pleased with the overall team performance. “It was a good game my boys gave it their all and showed the mentality of dying for one another and MUT gave us a though game but we managed to get a win,” said Mshibe.
DUT captain Andile Mavundla said, “We didn’t play our normal game as all the lights in the ground where not on and that was a challenge to use but I’m happy that we got what we came for – the 3 points.”
DUT next encounter is at home at Alpine Sports Ground with Edgewood College on Saturday.
