A brace from Cuthbert Malajila secured 3 points for Mamelodi Sundowns at the expense of AmaZulu in Loftus Versveld Stadium on Sunday.
Sundowns came to win this match after suffering a 3-0 defeat to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates midweek.
Both teams created chances in the first half but failed to convert as the match went to half time with no goals.
Both clubs started the second half on a high, but the Brazilians used the opportunity they got on the 61st minute to take a lead, courtesy of a header by Malajila from Tebogo Langerman’s pin-point cross.
Malajila came back to complete his brace with a close range header in the 66th minute as AmaZulu were still recovering from that first goal. The goal came after their veteran midfielder, Surprise Moriri, produced a sublime cross for the Zimbabwean international.
Malajila got the best chance of the match to complete his hat-trick, but his effort went wide.
Kaizer Chiefs continued with their 100% winning streak after they beat struggling SuperSport United by 2-0 late on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys were the better of the two but United shot-stopper Ronwen Williams made telling saves to deny Chiefs a lead in the first stanza.
Amakhosi took the lead on the 63rd minute as Mandla Masango continued with his fine scoring form in the colours of Chiefs. The goal came after a good passing move between Masango, Kingston Nkhatha and Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
Amakhosi secured three points after a good cross by Tsepo Masilela was chested by Siboniso Gaxa to Yeye. Letsholonyane’s shot deflected to Nkhatha who made no mistake and slotted it home.
Chiefs is now at the summit of the log after having won all five league matches they have played.
Also this weekend, Orlando Pirates got maximum points after lashing Polokwane City by 3-0.
Goals from Kermit Erasmus, Thabo Qalinge and Lehlohonolo Majoro secured three away points for Pirates at the infamous Peter Mokaba Stadium.
After hammering Sundowns by 3-0, they delivered a comparably capable performance to put the Rise and Shine to the sword.
