Proteas coach, Russell Domingo cancelled the captain’s run ahead of the 3rd One Day International against New Zealand on Wednesday in Durban.
Domingo is expected to call a press conference where he might reveal why the important training session ahead of the clash between the arch-rivals of the Southern Hemisphere in the decider of
the series.
According to staff member of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, Sihle Buthelezi, the training was scheduled for 08:00 but was postponed by an hour until Coach Domingo called the union to say
he has cancelled the training session.
Proteas go to the 3rd ODI having lost to Black Caps on Sunday by eight wickets. Spokesperson for Cricket South Africa, Altaaf Kazi said that the Proteas know the importance of leveling the
series.
“The team knows that winning in Durban, will increase their chances of winning the series and it’s a big game for Proteas,” said Kazi
In Potchefstroom, the visiting side used four players that played in the clash between the two sides in the semi-finals of the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Auckland earlier this year.
Jabu Mbambo, freelance cricket commentator at Ukhozi FM said that the New Zealanders are building for the future; that is based by the way they are mingling the experienced players and
the youth.
However, Mbambo feels the Domingo coached-side hasn’t given the fringe players more game time.
“Proteas have the young guns like Kagiso Rabada but they are still dependent on experienced players like AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and other senior members of the squad,” said Mbambo.
She added that the wicket in Durban favors the team that will bowl first but the game can go either way.
The winner of tomorrow’s game will win the series. As it stands, they are levelled at 1-1. The match kickoffs at 12:30 and will be televised live on SABC 3, Supersport 1 and ball by ball
commentary on Radio 2000.
