Kaizer Chiefs Head Coach Steven Kompela hopes to keep the winning momentum when they take on Maritzburg United in the last 16 Telkom Knockout class at FNB Stadium on Saturday 22 October.
Amakhosi are currently on the top of the log with 13 points after beating The Urban Warriors at Moses Mabhida 2-0 in the Absa Premiership match. The last time these two teams met was in the Premier Soccer League clash at FNB Stadium which resulted in a 2-0 win in favour of Amakhosi.
The Team of Choice’s last encounter leading to the cup was against Free State Starts away from home at Goble Park where they played a one-all tie on Saturday.
Kompela said that they just want to win the match in 90 minutes and the focus on that match has already begun.
“We have played Mariztburg United in the league game and we manage to win but we don’t want to put that on our head. It a difference game and since they played us, they know our weaknesses and I’m sure that they will want to capitalise on them,” said Kompela.
Chief Coach also said that since now most of the players are performing to their standards, managing your players is very critical.
“When every player is doing well, it is a nice challenge and it is healthy competition as a team. Sometimes things happen injuries, suspensions as George Maluleka got a red card, so this is where we have to come up with a reinforcement to balance the team,” added Kompela.
Kaizer Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune believes that riding in the winning lane will be great as they are looking forward to adding a cup in the Naturena cabinet.
“Chiefs is a big team, and with that, much is expected from us as the players so we will take the United game very serious as is the first crucial step to the cup title,” said Khune.
“We have a strong squad and coach Kompela is a great coach and it very much pleasing to see supporters getting behind the team to supports use as players and coach,” added khune.
