Wits status sale results to 29 job losses
Bidvest Wits has completely been sold to businessman Masala Mulaudzi, who will then relocate the team to Venda and rename it Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila. Wits football club will no longer exist from 31 August.
Siya crew reported that almost 29 personnel face retrenchment. To provide for those affected, a chance to apply for voluntary severance packages has begun.
“The PSL has authorized the company’s sale of status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and the company will stop to operate after 31 August 2020,” stated Wits website.
Wits has proposed paying out one month’s salary for every year completed of suffered service, but that appears to only function to non-football players.
Indications are; should the season go beyond the end of August, which at this stage appears unlikely, then players and the technical team could be paid a proportional fee.
Wits have sold goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, Gift Motupa and Hashim Domingo to Mamelodi Sundowns. Deon Hotto and Captain Thulani Hlatshwayo are yet to join Orlando Pirates.
The new club owners had mentioned that some of the club’s high earners will have to be sold. The list includes Coach Gavin Hunt, the four times championship winning mentor.
