WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATED THROUGH FITNESS

Teachers from various schools in the community, taxi owners, South African Police Station Services and Metro Police came in numbers to commemorate Women’s Day.
There was soccer and aerobics that were played on the day with the Metro Police winning the final match by 3-1 after competing with teachers at the Molweni Sports Grounds.
As a token of appreciation to all the hard work of the women of 1956. They decided to spend the day playing football, joining women in the aerobics class. Women were handed gifts by the
organizers.
Mlungisi Hadebe, co-organizer of the event said, “We decided to organize this event to educate and entertain women by playing soccer for them. This is our way of saying thank you for the
hard work and sweat you put towards fighting for this freedom.”
Duma Ngidi, principal of KwaDinabakubo and organizer of the event said, “We are entertaining an educating the community about the importance of this day in a fun way while playing and
exercising.”
Sthembiso Mchunu, Ward 9 councilor, said that being a female councillor is a challenge but she is delighted at being part of the event.
“Today’s event has been a huge success and it brings about happiness to us women, especially that it is aimed to bring us together, to bring change, give hope and to lift one another. Women’s
Day should be celebrated every day and not on the August 9 only,” said Mchunu.
