Burst sewage pipe blocks the pavement in Lamontville

Thabile Kweyama
A burst sewage pipe in Lamontville has blocked the pavement since Wednesday causing pollution in the area.
Mbali Ntuli, a resident of 6 years said the quality of the sewer infrastructure in the community is reduced. She added that it has been years since the municipality has upgraded and replaced the pipes.
Mbali said the burst sewage pipe is near her house and she is negatively effected.
“Since the burst sewage pipe is near my house I am at a high risk of contracting serious illnesses. The stench from the sewage water is unbearable and I cannot open the house windows as the pavement is near my house,” said Ntuli.
She added that the entire community is negatively affected by the burst sewage pipe as the sewage water flows down the pavement.
“Community members have to be vigilant when walking on the road. The wellbeing of young children in the area is concerning because some of them play on the road,” said Ntuli.
Msizi Dlamini, a ward committee member said he has contacted the municipality about the issue and has received a reference number.
“The burst sewage pipe needs to be fixed because people could get sick especially young children,” said Dlamini.
