Durban artist Azana becomes Apple Music’s new artist of the month
Apple Music’s New Artist spotlight for August is Durban-born Afro pop songstress, Azana.
Makhasana who is famously known as Azana, was born and bred in KwaZulu-Natal. Currently signed to Sun El Musician’s record label, she gained recognition for her hit single ‘Your love’ which topped local charts and won the hearts of Mzansi.
In July, Azana released her debut album ‘Ingoma’, a 14- track masterpiece which is infused with different sounds blending soul, pop and house music. Her debut album secured the 1st spot in the country on Apple Music’s pop chart. She collaborated with artists such as Afriikan Papi, Disciples of House, Sun EL Musician, Sino Msono, S-Tone, Mthunzi and Claudio x Kenza for her album.
Speaking to Apple Music, Azana revealed the meaning behind her album title “Ingoma”.
“Ingoma means a song and a song can mean so much to you in so many ways,” she said.
In an interview with Glamour magazine, Azana said that her album symbolizes new beginnings, love, hope and spirituality. The artist takes us on a journey with her album reflecting on her spirituality, her road to stardom and the essence home.
“I believe there’s a track for everyone in ‘Ingoma’ and that even though it’s a song, I hope the listener will not see it as just a song but as medicine for healing and happiness,” she said.
Her album is featured in notable play lists such as Afro-Soul mix, Africa Rising, Mzansi Soul and Mzansi Risers on Apple Music. It is available for streaming and purchasing on all major music platforms.
