Andile Mbutho’s murder main accused out on bail
Hambanathi community in Tongaat is fuming with rage following the news of accused main man Mlungisi Thabethe who was granted bail on Friday.
Andile Mbutho, a matric pupil who was killed for allegedly stealing alcohol at a tavern after he went missing in April, and his body found dumped in Wewe River later in May, his family and Hambanathi community are angry and up in arms that Thabethe is now a free man.
Speaking to EtvNews – Community Policing Forum, Vincent Shandu, said they did not expect this, he said they thought the law was taking its own course and justice was to be served.
“Since this has happened, it is going to spark another violent activities, I do not want to say what is going to happen because there are mixed feelings and mixed emotions,” said Shandu.
Attorney, Chris Gounden, representing Thabethe said the magistrate in the district court put too much of emphasis on stent of the state case based on what he understood the high court said.
“According to the Judge, the state is lying on circumstantial evidence according to what contained in the bail proceedings, and the likelihood of the accused getting life imprisonment is very slim,” said Gounden.
