FUEL PRICES DROP

The price of petrol will decrease by 22 cents a litre from Wednesday, the Department of Energy announced on Friday.
Ministry spokesperson, Robert Maake said that Diesel will drop by between 24 and 25c/l.
The price of wholesale illuminating paraffin will decrease by 10 cents and illuminating paraffin by 13 cents.
“The main reason for this change is a strengthening of the Rand against the Dollar during the price review periods compared to the previous month. Also, the price of international products in the market, particularly of petrol and diesel. It also dropped during the period under review,” Maake said in a press statement.
He added that the department also reduced the slate levy from 6.58 cents a litre and it’s going to 0.0 cents per litre with effect from June 1.
Taxi owner Simiso Sithole said that the petrol price drop will make a difference in their business.
“The 22cents is not much but it will have a huge impact on our profits. I am truly looking forward to Wednesday,” Sithole said.
Maake said the other the factor the led to the decrease is that the department adjusted the state levy. It has been reduced from 6,58 cents [per litre] to zero.
The price of diesel with 0.05% sulphur will decrease by 23.58c a litre and that of diesel with 0.005% sulphur by 25.58c a litre.
The maximum retail price for liquid petroleum gas will fall by 27c a litre.
