Government opened the economy at the right time: Mkhize
Healthy Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize agrees with the decision of reopening the economy.
Mkhize says the country has passed covid-19 storm with fewer cases being reported. He believes the government made the right decision, at the right time, to reopen the economy.
He said the opening of the economy was not about big business, but the people who are the backbone of the economy.
“What we wanted to save our people from is that they should not have the problem of food security, the problem of income security, unemployment and so on. It’s the majority of the black people who lose the jobs because the economy is close, it’s the majority who have the challenge who have access to income, so when we reopen the economy it’s not about big business, it’s about the fact that the black people are the backbone of the economy, but they also depend on that economy, the government can give so much of packages,” said Mkhize
Mkhize also added that it was in the best of the country to apply the hard lockdown to prevent the deaths of more people.
“At the time if we did not do the lockdown, South Africa would be worse than it is today. The reality is that we have done the best in the situation. You must stop politicising the matter. Yes, we must rebuild the economy,” added Mkhize.
