Lockdown, a blessing in disguise for some
While the lockdown has changed a lot of things in South Africa, some citizens believe it was the best thing to have ever happened to them.
To some people, the lockdown with its restrictions such as the ban of cigarettes, night clubs, and other gatherings has had a negative impact.
However, some of the residents of Ntuzuma, north of Durban claim the restrictions were a gain for them.
Samkelisiwe Mgenge, a resident in the area, says that some of the regulations have helped her save vast amounts of money.
“I’m a person who likes attending entertainment events and going to night clubs- but ever since I haven’t been able to go and have fun due to the Covid-19, I’ve been saving quite a lot lately,” said Mgenge.
“The lockdown came as an advantage because I no longer spend recklessly like before. Everything I spend now is according to my budget,” she added.
Bongani Gumede, a smoker, says the banning of cigarettes was a blessing in disguise, notwithstanding the constant nicotine withdrawal symptoms he encountered.
“At first I was disappointed by the banning of cigarettes and the first few days weren’t easy for me because I got severe headaches from not smoking. But I have to say, in a way this banning of cigarettes rehabilitated me,” said Gumede.
He also added that he hasn’t smoked in a long time and the headaches are gone, and does not think of going back again.
