Long-distance transport to operate at 100% capacity
Transport minister Fikile Mbalula said long distance transport will be allowed to operate at full passenger capacity from the 1st October under level 1 lockdown.
Mbalula said all forms of long distance travel including taxis, airplanes and trains among others will be allowed to operate at 100% capacity from the first of October. Transport such as taxis were operating at 70% capacity under level 2.
Taxi driver, Scelo Mdaka said he was in full support of this decision by the government. The taxi industry has been negatively affected by the covid-19 and it is time to fully open the country he said. The passengers need to follow precautions and they will be safe Mdaka added.
Lungile Noka said traveling to the Free State at 70% passenger capacity felt so comfortable. She said going back to 100% capacity will cause her anxiety as she had gotten used to the lesser passengers capacity.
“I understand that this was necessary, but it was really comfortable traveling at 70% capacity,” said Noka.
