R15 million allocated to improve the “City of Choice”
In his budget speech on Monday, Msunduzi Municipality Mayor, Cllr Mzimkhulu Thebolla, has announced that R15 million has been allocated to improve the new normal protocols.
“We have allocated R15 million for the anticipated use of increased water demand in historically marginalised communities” he said.
Thebolla said that the money is to ensure that there is enough water supply in communities under the Msunduzi Municipality for hygiene in order to curve the spread of the Corona virus.
The mayor said that the pandemic is worsening and it poses a challenge to the poor, as the number of positive Covid-19 cases are increasing in the “City of Choice”
He also encouraged people above the age of 60 to work from home in order to protect those close to them from the pandemic.The mayor also encouraged people to comply with the regulations of the lockdown, practice social distancing, wear masks and wash their hands as regularly as possible.
The maiden budget speech was also dedicated in honour of the great teacher and revolutionary Mr Themba Harry Gwala. This comes as the city will be celebrating Gwala’s 100th centennial birthday in July. “we dedicate ourselves to the values he stood for, we dare not to fail him” said the uMsunduzi Municipality Mayor.
