From Durban to the world
Blessed Clothing becomes a nationwide favourite since its start up in 2014.
Mazwi Mchunu started the clothing line initially as Cocaine. The first apparel he released were bucket hats written “Umswenko”, shortly after he introduced the Cocaine caps. It was not long until Cocaine blew up and was the most popular and most loved brand in Durban.
“The brand started off as Cocaine wear, and after two years of producing more than t-shirts, caps, and all head to toe clothing, we introduced a new range called ‘blessed.’” The designer said it felt right at the time to go with that new name as the brand had grown so much, not only in Durban but outside the province.
Mchunu has always had support when the brand started and keeping it running until today. Sbusiso Xulu manages the day to day running at the shop and making sure that orders and deliveries are out on time. “It was only right that I fully supported him when he started the business because we’re basically family and family support each other.
Xulu mentioned that there has always been competition and people that spoke ill of the brand as a whole but that only pushed them to work harder and be the best at what they do and focus on giving their customers what they want and more. “The love shown by our customers on social media is also what made us a nationwide favourite because now we do deliveries all around the country through Transnet or Aramex.”
“The love inspired our growth,” Mchunu said.
Blessed clothing has also received support from local artists such as DJ Bongs and has also been showcased in music videos.
