Hello Mzansi, the new queen of the dance floor is here
The young upcoming DJ, Palesa Phali is navigating her way to success, and her determination won’t let anything stand in her way.
Despite her being so young, it however, shows vividly that for her, age isn’t a factor and fear doesn’t exist in her vocabulary as she constantly strives for success. This sizzling upcoming DJ is only 18 years of age yet is ready to take the world by storm.
Palesa is originally from Pretoria and is currently studying Financial Literacy at the University of Pretoria. It is as broad as daylight that, Palesa is ready to infiltrate the male dominated spheres, and leave her mark as a young female DJ.
This passionate DJ started showcasing her talent to the world by sharing her mix set on her social media platforms. Palesa stated accurately that, she isn’t afraid to put her nose on the grindstone, she didn’t come to play because her work is now recognised by local radio stations like Jozi FM.
When asked, this young novice put it clearly that this is just the beginning of something greater, she is not going to stop putting in the work.
Her background immensely influenced the way that she sees and understands music. Growing up in Pretoria really inspired her in a music sense. She said her aim is to make people happy, it isn’t just about the fame but seeing people happy that’s an ultimate goal for her.
She further stated that music is a universal language and that she has always wanted to communicate and bring people together through music no matter the race. “Music unites, that’s the significant part I love about it,” she added.
. Palesa may be young but she sets her own rules and live by them. Being in a male dominated industry might seem like an insurmountable and a very challenging task but she is ready to tackle all the challenges and pave the way for herself and those coming after her.
Seeing a young female DJ flourishing in the industry is indeed exciting. Palesa is a versatile DJ, she doesn’t confine nor box herself, she goes with the flow of what the people are hyping and currently listening to at the time.
For an ordinary person balancing the University life with a seemingly challenging course while simultaneously adjusting to the DJ life might seem like an insurmountable task but that’s not the case with Palesa as she knows how to balance her lifestyle and her studies.
She is accurately, proving to the world and the youth that shrinking yourself isn’t an option, you have to work hard and master the multi-tasking skill. Tons of female DJs tried to weaken, the shackles in the male dominated spheres but some of them unfortunately failed because the industry greedily swallowed them. Nonetheless, despite her age Palesa is ready to melt all the metal walls and take over as the youngest female DJ ever.
She further stated that all that she wants is to see young females DJs and female artists in general flourishing in the industry.
“Female DJs for centuries have been oppressed in the industry and we’ve seen the prominent DJs like DJ Zinhle taking over the DJ field and breaking the stigma, proving to the world that being a DJ has nothing to do with masculinity or just gender. If you have the talent, don’t be afraid go out there and show it to the world, the world is ready for you don’t hold back,” she added.
When asked what advice she’d give to young females, wanting to be DJs but afraid of the industry, she chuckled and said, “don’t let your fears limit you, don’t be afraid of the society just do you and be consistent with your work, the society is not the boss of you, you’re capable. Don’t ever underestimate your capabilities”.
