KUMISA Music Business Brunch
The KwaZulu-Natal United Music Industry Association (KUMISA) is a non-profit, provincial music industry cluster that was established in 2009 under section 21 of the Companies Act.
The KUMISA founder and Managing Director, Thando Nyameni said that in their efforts to develop the organs that positively contribute towards a fruitful music industry, KUMISA established the two Master Classes which equip the performers, authors and composers with the business and administrative side of the business.
“Developing the capacity of KZN Music professionals is key to the growth of the music sector and on the first Thursday of every month, which is why we at KUMISA host the Music Business Workshop which empowers artist and music business owners with the necessary skills to enable them to take their music to greater heights,” said Nyameni.
The association recently hosted a two-day workshop , which was attended by various artist within the music industry. The association conducted the workshop, focusing on building business opportunities for musicians, technologists and music industry practitioners. It was also an opportunity for individuals to gain skills and information to develop new products and services to serve and represent the music industry.
KUMISA offers two non-accredited master classes; the Artist Management Master Classes, as well as the, Music Publishing Master Classes. These classes aim at equipping and developing the musicians with skills and tools of becoming professional Artist Managers as well as successful Music Publishers.
The founder of Music Imbizo, Sphelele Mbhele is one of the mentors at the KUMISA Business Workshops, he participates in the all the workshops hosted by KUMISA.
“Artists do not understand the importance of understanding the roles of Music Creators, Enablers, Revealers as well as Facilitators and the KUMISA master Classes and Business Workshops provide insight to all the above”, explained Mbhele.
