Meet Thandeka, the training queen
“Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn
Her name is Thandeka Ngiba and fitness is her passion, born and raised in KwaMashu Towsnhip, north of Durban, Thandeka is a fitness sensation. The 39-year old mother of one has very long days, she is a public works senior admin officer. Thandeka attended Roseland Primary School in Newlands East and then went to Hillview High School also in Newlands East.
“Fitness is not something I grew up having a passion for. In the year 2000 a friend invited me to gym and that is when I started to fall in love with fitness,” she said.
Ever since that time Thandeka says she never stopped loving fitness. After she started going to gym, she says there were people who saw potential in her and that motivated her. Thandeka is now a part-time coach at Virgin Active. Depending on the days she says she will have morning classes before she goes to work or afternoon when she comes from work. She wakes up at 5 am and goes home after 7pm.
“In the midst of all this, I also need to make time for me to train. The techniques I use to train people don’t come out of nowhere, I also need to learn,” Thandeka said humbly.
After being in fitness for 18 years, Thandeka decided to take a training course with Physical IQ. 2018 is when Thandeka started to be a trainer. She says like anything in life you cannot force people to do it, it has to come from within.
“Unless I’m dealing with a person who wants to lose weight, I don’t push people to do. Even with people who want to lose weight you can only push so far,” she cautioned.
Thandeka has a passion for this, she says although she needs the money she does not charge people for her classes. She is only paid by Virgin Active.
“I don’t ask for money, unless people want to give me out of the goodness of their hearts. I just want to help people, it’s all about the good vibes,” said Thandeka.
She says fitness is the priority, not profit. She says she sees the difference exercise makes in people’s lives.
