From Umlazi’s bumpy roads with interesting history and great vibes comes a story of passionate young people. They influence and inspire the youth in the township through music. The streets of G Section produces extra-ordinarily talented youngsters who use gospel music and their talent of singing to change people’s lives.
Uthando gospel group which is an acapela group made up of 15 members. As many as they are, each member’s voice adds interesting tones that is both unique and distinct from one another. They formed the group while they were still in high school.
These enthusiastic members of the uMlazi group who truly believe that by using gospel music as a tool to deliver messages of God, they will encourage the youth and maybe impact positively on society. It felt good to witness youngsters of the 21st century using music as a tool to change people’s lives. The youth of today react well with music and with these relaxing and soothing tunes that convey the message of God. Pastor
Tshabalala, one of the wellknown pastors in uMlazi said, “I am optimistic in the youth refraining from sin. My cousin used to indulge in wrong doings and I have seen his life change after being inspired by this group.”
They have hosted many concerts and featured well-known groups such as the Soil, Abanqobi and Themba Gospel Group and Joyous Celebration.
The group has recently launched their CD, which contains 13 tracks and they have featured well-kniwn artists such as Thina Zungu on their CD. They were nominated as the best acapela group in the gospel awards that were hosted at the International Convention Centre in Durban. They were nominated for the track Are you ready, featuring Thina Zungu. The song targeted the youth because it was fast paced and I think more young people would be attracted to such a sound. One of their tracks it is well with my soul touched and moved me. People felt blessed when they were playing that track and they kept the song on repeat. Xolani Biyela from uMlazi, who is a strong fan of the group said, “The music of this group it is very interesting and pleasing to the ear.”
The group’s success in recording their CD at KZN Music House where well known artists such as Zakes Bantwini recorded, shows how serious the group is in ensuring that they deliver good music to both young and old people.
Pastor Shabalala further said, “The amazing voices of these youngsters have surprised many people.”
When listening to their music people imagine as if angels from heaven are singing, preaching change in their lives and blessings.
