Poetry is a talent and a philosophical ministry that people communicate with each other through. Igagasi lobuciko uses words to minister, heal, change lives and entertain people.
Igagasi Lobuciko is a poetry group that was formed in uMlazi by local poets with a vision of discovering young talent. Their group was formed on the basis of poetry but they also have other forms of art within the group.
Group members consist of Aphiwe Boiboi, Siyabonga Mbambo, Thubelihle Mthembu ,Ntokozo Biyela and 8 other high school learners.
“You cannot choose something that you are born with,” said Boiboi.
The group has 12 enthusiastic young members who use words and different type of art in inspiring the youth.
“Our focus is simple- we cater for functions and produce artists who go out there and showcase the talent out here,” said Mthembu.
Igagasi Lobuciko, like any other group, believes they have something that makes them unique.
“We like introducing something that is new in the industry- we have introduced comedy in poetry which is unusual,” said Mbambo.
Ntokozo Biyela said the group motivates and inspires the youth because they recite about issues that are affecting the youth such as teenage pregnancy and HIV and AIDS.
They make sure they deliver a message that impact positively on the youth.
Members in the group do share a lot in common and they are always united even when waves of conflict strike. They always solve their own problems without attracting any external attention. Unity is very important to them.
“We support each other as a group and we treat each other as family members,” said Biyela.
The group plans to produce and host poetry awards to encourage art work in the township. Igagasi Lobuciko’s achievements consist of the special shows at Mangosuthu
University of Technology and nomination for the SATMA awards in the best poetry category.
The groups’ lifelong dream is to be well recognized global and for the poetry industry to dominate locally.
