DUT BACKS SATMA NOMINATED ALUMNI

Durban University of Technology’s Mansfield Hall was packed to capacity as students came out in numbers to support a former student that has been nominated for the South African Traditional
Sifiso “Tsoro” Thutshini, a former Civil Engineering Btech student has started his campaign for votes across Durban following his nomination and the only comedian to represent KZN.
The funny man who has been doing stand-up comedy for the past years was once awarded two awards for being the most outstanding DUT comedian in 2002.
However, Tsoro, as he preferred to be called joked that he only realized late that there is a career in comedy and he didn’t know that making people laugh would make his famous one day.
Tsoro said asked students to support and promote him to win this award and bring it home.
“Being nominated is a great opportunity but to win this award will be a great achievement… DUT is my home that why I started campaigning here because this where I started performing,”
Residence Life and Student Housing is behind Tsoro following last year’s campaign they pushed for Ndumiso Maphumulo, also from DUT, which led him to win the Best Poet at SATMA’s last
The Residence Advisor of Berea Residence Nonhlanhla Mbatha said that students must start taking their talents seriously because SATMA has recognized the talent in DUT students, which
why the department of housing has decided to open a “Talent Show” in 2016.
“We understand that students must perform well academic but they also shouldn’t ignore or forget their talents, if students get such opportunities we promote them with such events and also
expose them to more experienced people,” added Mbatha.
Tsoro promised students that he will first bring the award at DUT if he wins just like he started campaigning here in return most students promised to vote for him.
“I will not vote just because I think Tsoro should win the award but I will vote because I love comedy and he will also be representing the DUT comedy and poetry session,” said Sfiso
“Makorobha” Majola, a third year Drama student.
There were various performances from the famous comedians Momish, Ndlebe and Mise also the famous poets like Ntokoza “Starring” Zulu, Amagcokama and the SATMA award winner
Tsoro pleaded for students to vote for him, he said his victory is in the student’s hands.
