Unique PR &Events hosted a cultural expedition on Saturday at the BAT centre in Durban.
The theme was ‘Empowering Youth through Arts and Culture. The event housed talents such as the cast of Uzalo, Khumbulani Kay Sbiya, Sihle Ndaba, DUTs very own SATMA winner Ndumiso Maphumulo, comedian Justice Kubheka and poet Xoli Vilakazi.
The event was also a platform for young artists such as poets to showcase their talents through poetry and hip-hop. The occasion aimed at informing the youth that art can be a source of income rather than a hobby and it is a way of life.
Amongst the people who attended was Lungisani Mavundla, a radio presenter, novelist, poet, and accountant, who delivered a speech on the importance of art and also stressed the need for packaging one’s art and making it unique.
“Packaging your art is possible because there are people such as Zakes Bantwini, the Motswako guys etc. who have packaged their art as a skill,” said Mavundla.
Mavundla continued to say that by introducing 90% air play of local music on SABC radio, media has come on board to prioritize the importance of art especially in youth empowerment.
Unique PR & Events owner, Sanelisiwe Bhengu, said that she was overwhelmed by the turnout as she did not expect many people to come.
“This expo was a success seeing that it was the first of its kind. I will be hosting another one in three months’ time because the youth needs to understand the importance of art and where to showcase it as well.”
