The famous Ladies House Facebook group is hosting a fun-filled 3-day spring festival for women and children.
They kicked off the Mnax spring festival with a colourful parade which was attended by women of all walks of life. Vivacious bright colours and extravagant attires were the order of the day, with Rickshaws, drumming, and songs being chanted, it was exhilarating.
Ladies House is a Facebook group for women, where they find comfort, confide, support and console each other. The group has served as a purpose for women to voice out the challenges they face and openly ask for guidance and advice.
One of the organisers of this festival, Londiwe Ndlovu explained why this event is a good course.
“People always think that the women in the ladies house Facebook group only curse each other and talk about men, which is why we decided to come together and host this three day festival in light of women and children, we are coming together to do something nice for each other as women, to empower each other and to say stop gender-based violence and xenophobia,” said Ndlovu.
The 3-day festival is jam-packed with fun activities for women, therapy and counseling programmes, worship, health and wellness, women in business and more.
Amongst the crowd was Chrissy Naidoo from Rhythmic school of dance who was also part of the parade.
“it’s a very good course since all the women came together as one and joined us in our parade to show unity and to say no to Xenophobia and gender-based violence,” she said.
Despite a light rain this morning that did not let down the spirit of these determined ladies. The Festival continues around the city of Durban.
